Korilla BBQ Truck
Somewhere in New York City
KorillaBBQ.com

<img src="http://www.greedysnob.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/korilla-bbq-truck-300x197.jpg" alt="" title="korilla-bbq-truck" width="300" height="197" size-medium wp-image-1036" />

So I was strolling along in Chelsea today after teaching my aerobics class and I came across this food truck with a crowd around it! Of course anything with a crowd draws me to it, especially if its food related! So I got in line. THAT WAS THE BEST LINE I’VE EVER STOOD IN! Korilla BBQ is AMAZING! It was kind of odd to me at first…Korean BBQ in Tacos…Korea meets Mexico…hmmmm…but I couldnt pass up the opportunity to have Spicy Pork.

Ever since I had to my first Korean BBQ experience, I’ve been addicted to Spicy Pork! So of course i ordered the Spicy Pork Taco with Kimchi (and I didnt even have to cook it myself lol). And of course, being the greedy eater that I am, I wanted beef too! I know some people frown upon mixing meats but we fat azz Americans do that and we do it proudly! Lucky for us, the awesome (and cute) guys on the Korilla truck actually are all about substitutions! Since an order comes with 3 tacos…i got 2 spicy pork and one beef (bul go gi) taco. THEY WERE ALL DEELISH! I cant even tell you which one I liked better because I love them both.

They also have chicken and tofu, but I had to pass on the chicken because its thigh meat and I dont like dark meat. Tofu is cute but Im a meat eater, so if I was to get tofu, id mix it with meat lol! Im sure that defeats the whole tofu purpose. But in any case, Im sure all are great!

If you ever stumble upon the Korilla truck, definitely STOP BY and grab a burrito or a taco or just a chosun bowl! You wont be disappointed! Even if you’re not hungry, get something for later. Next time I see the truck (aka find it because I will be stalking them), Im gonna try their bacon and kimchi fried rice! That sounds so good! You can never go wrong with bacon! I know its hard to believe that I teach aerobics the way I eat…but hey..i have to keep my body in shape because if I didnt exercise i’d look this and THIS would be my theme song.

If you want to know where the Korilla BBQ truck is gonna be, be sure to follow them on twitter @KorillaBBQ and “like” their Facebook page. I wish I could LOVE their facebook page.

And hey, guy at the register CALL ME! Cuz you’re a cutie. Wait..i forgot to give you my number. Err…um…EMAIL ME! lol

I had a great time at dinner with friends last night! We had a little “welcome home” dinner for one of my friends who just returned “home” from London for a visit. Do you know she had the nerve to abandon us by moving there?! How dare she! Dont you hate when your friends move away, but the annoying people that you want to slap always seem to stick around? Why is that?

Anyway, we went to Boka! Its right on St. Mark’s place. I really like this place! Its spacious enough not to be considered small, and if youre in a large group, they put you in a cute little cubby-like room of your own! Its like having your own private party with wait staff!

The food is great! Ive never had a full meal there, I usually stick to appetizer type foods because theyre more fun. The main dish that people go there for is the BonChon Chicken. Its almost weird to go there and not order it. I’ve made a post before about BonChon Chicken when I reviewed “Mad For Chicken”. Its the same kind of chicken but to me “Mad For Chicken” is better. Mad For Chicken makes crispier chicken and they put more sauce on it. But if you dont feel like going all the way to Koreatown, Boka is great for second best. Another cool thing about Boka is the Happy Hour all you can eat chicken and beer special! For 23 dollars you can have all the chicken and beer you want! U HEAR THAT LUDACRIS!?

Honestly, the chicken and beer all you can eat special is fun, but it seems like they half ass it a little on the chicken when you do the special. I like my chicken extremely well done. And though the chicken was cooked all the way through, I would have liked some of it to be a little more cooked. Also, one round of chicken felt like it was luke warm. This doesnt fly when all the previous rounds were so hot, you could hardly even pick them up with your bare hands.

I guess we were eating the chicken too fast for them to keep up? NEWSFLASH: When you have “all you can eat” specials, you have to expect the HOMER SIMPSONS of the world and be prepared for these things! I had to send the luke warm pieces back and have them cooked a little more. My friends told me that I probably pissed off the waiter by sending it back and most likely the new chicken would be laced with piss or some other bodily fluid. HA HA VERY FUNNY! Whats funnier is that when the new chicken arrived, they were the first ones grabbin at it!

Boka also has really great sushi rolls! My favorite is the “Crab and Shrimp Roll”. My friend also got this really good roll that had beef in it. I think it was called a Bul Go Gi Roll! It was delicious! The beef was really tender! I didnt even know that rolls with beef in them even existed. I cant wait to try some of the other rolls.

As for drinks, aside from beer we had leechi soju. Im not a drinker but I liked this a lot! I had 3 shots of it (which is a lot for me) and ate one of the Leechis! Another time I went there, I had watermelon soju which is a lot of fun to drink! They dig out a small watermelon and fill it with the soju. Everyone takes turns scooping some into their little glasses! Its a little messy if youre clumsy but its really cute. Ive learned that I shouldnt drink more than one shot! Drinking prompts me to share too much info about my under garments (complete with visual aids).

Overall I really like this place. Its a cool place to go with a group of friends or on a date. Its very clean inside and I like the trendy atmosphere and neighborhood! Its right on St. Mark’s place so you can do some shopping once you leave! And if youre greedy like me, you can run across the street to Mamoun’s and get a Falafel for later!

www.madforchicken.com

This is one of my new favorite places! Not only is the food good, but the atmosphere is really cool! Located in Korea Town, this place is one of NYC’s best kept secrets and I think maybe they prefer to keep it that way. You wont find this place if you dont know about it. Strangely enough, it’s always packed! Word of mouth is a powerful thing.

To get here, you have to go through the lobby of an office building, up a staircase to this blank door, then a big dude slides a window open and asks you “what’s the password?”. The password is BON CHON!

Just kidding. The password dude doesnt exist but thats the only thing missing. The place is so discreet it seems like you would need a password to get in.

Once youre in, its a really cute bar/lounge place with gorgeous wait staff and cool trendy people happily crunching on their Bon Chon Chicken. Bon Chon Chicken is Korean fried chicken…claimed to be twice fried to add to extra crispiness outside and moist juiciness inside! You can get either sweet garlic sauce or spicy hot sauce. I recommend the garlic if you actually want to taste your food. The spicy sauce is so hot it will singe your taste buds right off your tongue.

Prices are pretty reasonable! 14 bucks will provide a generous amount of chicken for 2 people possibly with a little extra chicken left over (but force yourself to eat the extra chicken. It doesnt taste the same if its left over..and its too good to let go to waste). They give you so much that you really dont need any side dishes. That chicken is so good, it almost makes you forget that side dishes even exist.

You can have a choice of wings, drum sticks or a combo of both. I prefer the wings because theyre more petite, and since theyre petite theyre much crispier. The drum sticks are a little too meaty for me.

This is a great place to go with a group of your friends for a fun filled evening with drinks and laughs, or cozy little date. They even have little rooms sectioned off for more intimate gatherings. One thing I will say about the service is make sure you eat before you get there because by the time your food comes, youll be hungry again. They take so long to bring your dinner, you’ll have to eat it for breakfast. With that said, its worth the wait! Just grab some drinks and some appetizers and have a good time! And while you’re at it, check out that weird beer contraption they have. Click here to see video

Aside from soul food, this is some of the best fried chicken you may ever have.

My only issue with this place is the name. “Mad for Chicken” is the stupidest most ghetto name I have ever heard. Maybe its translated, and sounds much better in Korean? I sure hope so. But honestly they need to change it back to Bon Chon. I read somewhere that they changed it because they felt people would have a hard time pronouncing “Bon Chon”. HUH? I know people are dumb..but they’re not THAT DUMB! The new name doesnt do it justice at all. Instead of a trendy bar/lounge, it makes it sound more like some fast food take out joint where the staff wears chicken suits.
